Top 5 Primate Safaris in Uganda

On the African continent, Uganda is considered to have the safest national parks with no instabilities registered for over the years, this is the reason as to why Uganda is the visitors priority due it its nature of flora and fauna.

Mountain gorillas are the most attractive primates in Uganda though endangered due to the numerous poaching. This was solved and now visitor track almost every day. Bwindi and Mgahinga are registered to have half of the world’s remaining endangered mountain gorillas approximately over 400 of them. So interesting on the silver back gorillas which are considered to be the male and the head of the group is their energetic chests and huge hands since their power originates from the chests. Many visitors enjoy tracking but the difference with tracking and habituation is that with habituation, visitors spend the whole day experiencing the gorillas while with tracking only one hour is restricted. Gorilla tracking permits in Uganda costs US$600 USD “FNR”, $500 USD “FR” and UGX250000 “EAC” per person per track while habituation permits costs $1500 USD “FNR”, US$1000 “FR”, UGX750000 “EAC”.

Golden monkeys in Uganda are only found in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park located in the southwestern Uganda being shared with Rwanda and DR.Congo; they are too exciting to the viewer due to their interesting characters and the way they leap over large and small trees in their territories. Golden monkeys prefer bamboo forested areas and at Mgahinga, these are tracked at $50 and experienced at $100 USD.

Chimpanzees are among the amazing primates that are close to humans, sharing 98.7% of human DNA. Uganda’s Kibale Forest National Park probably offers the highest concentration of chimpanzees in the region with over 1500 chimpanzees. Chimpanzees can be both trekked and habituated at only $ 150 and habituation at $220 USD. Visitors spend a day with the chimpanzees to see how they bang tree stems to communicate with each other during both activities.

Baboons, these are the most Africa’s destructive and stubborn primates as they move in groups, these not only stop at moving in groups, but in national parks such as Murchison falls national park they keep on waiting for visitors on the park highways to wait for food since they are used to people. This is the reason as to why clients are advised to lock their vehicles while in the park since baboons can open the cars and snatch the edibles they find inside.

Grey checked mangabeys also forms part of the Uganda’s primates which can be traced from Bigodi wetland sanctuary and Semliki game reserve, they are too interesting to watch ranging from their structure and the hairy body. Mangabeys have specialized cheek pouches enabling them to quickly fill up their mouths as they forage for food. Mangabeys communicate by slapping their lips together while shaking their heads.
