UWA Products Attract Hundreds in Gulu

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) exhibited a variety of products that included promotional and information materials which attracted hundreds of Northern Uganda folks during the week long activities to mark the world Tourism Day in Gulu Municipality on September 27th, 2011.

The exhibition at the TAKS Centre next to Acholi Inn saw excited stake holders including tour operators, hoteliers, training institutes and students among others pick lots of literature and listen to useful information on conservation and tourism from the UWA staff from headquarters and Murchison Falls National Park, manning the stall.

The most popular items carried away by the show attendees included full colour animal posters for different national parks and game reserves, National parks information guidebooks content, new conservation tariff books and a number of resale items used as souvenirs.

The UWA stall also attracted the third deputy prime minister Retired Lt.General Moses Ali, Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Professor Ephraim Kamuntu and his junior colleague Ms Agnes Akiror Egunyu, minister of state for Water Betty Bigombe and the district leadership among others who were received and conducted around the UWA stall by the Executive Director, Dr. Andrew Seguya.

Earlier during the week, artistes donning the mountain gorilla suits caused excitement in Gulu streets when they participated in the clean up exercise, painting of Zebra crossing and a dinner dance dubbed the Gorilla Service Night at the BJZ joint.

UWA staff also showed a heavy presence at the launch of the Northern Uganda Slave Trade Trail held at Fort Patiko,37 km north of Gulu Town which was presided over by Betty Bigombe. The gorillas joined the traditional dancers in entertaining the visitors and drumming support for mountain gorilla conservation.

A the end of the Tourism week, UWA was appreciated by the ministry of Tourism,Wildlife and Heritage with a certificate of participation.
